Kathryn's Nursery and Primary School

KMH provides high quality education for over 300 children from the most deprived parts of Devakottai. This gives the children a great start in life and the opportunity to go onto secondary and higher education.

Kathryn's Nursery and Primary School, Devakottai, Tamil Nadu, India

KMH employs 15 qualified teachers. The head teacher was a former child in one of KMH's Rural Child Development Centres, and is a great role model to the children. The school is authorised under the Tamil Nadu Government, and as such is subject to the inspections for education and welfare of all authorised schools in that state. The classrooms are bright and attractive, and some classrooms have interactive boards with touchscreens. The school follows the Indian Government’s curriculum for English medium schools, and the children perform well.

Some of the parents, who can afford it, pay a small amount to the school's costs, but otherwise the teachers' and other workers' salaries, the school equipment and buildings are all provided by the money we raise.

The school provides education for children between the ages of 3 and 11 years. The children wear the uniforms provided with pride.

There is a large area of land around the school which provides lots of room for play and other activities.

New classroom building project

The project to construct eight extra classrooms has just been completed. This will increase the number of children we can teach at the school to 500. The children have been involved at every stage of the building project, form the blessing of the foundations in July 2023, to the dedication of the classrooms on the 3rd April 2024. They have watched the building work with keen interest. Some of the children may have been inspired to study engineering, as other children who have been through the school have.
